Because the painting was so famous it was fitted for a very valuable and expensive frame in 1951. The painting has had many frames. The Mona Lisa has once had a touch up in 1809. The painting was stolen on August 21st 1911 and then it was replaced after the man who stole it had it in his apartment for 2 years and was sent to prison. Mona Lisa was significant to the renaissance because of its 3D features. Mona Lisa is considered a prototype for renaissance paintings. The Mona Lisa contributed to further the growth of the renaissance by making women more proud of how they look and it had nothing to do with religion which was good because everything was about religion in the renaissance and once the Mona Lisa was created people cared less about their religion which is something that represented humanism.
